True polished concrete is not created simply by exposing the rock in the concrete mix then applying a sealer. There's more to it than that. While it is possible to polish a concrete floor without grinding it, the finished product is not as brilliant, and many feel the shine will not last as long. The finish tends to look irregular, somewhat like the sun shining on choppy water. True diamond ground and polished concrete looks more like the reflection on a still pond, the surrounding scenery reflected in the smooth surface of the water. How can this smooth surface be achieved on concrete?
Proper preparation of the slab is necessary. First the concrete needs a smooth profile, a flat surface to polish. We can achieve this in several ways. If control over the pour is to be had we encourage as flat a surface as possible by specifying a FF rate of 35-50. If control over the pour is beyond our control, our equipment is designed to flatten out uneven spots in the floor and smooth the whole floor as one entire cohesive, flat slab. |
